Kyiv (Ukrainian: Київ, pronounced Keev) – or – Kiev (Russian: Киев)
In Ukrainian, the word for the city is Kyiv (Київ), in Russian it’s Kiev (Киев). Therefore the official city name is Kyiv. Only while using Russian would you use the word Kiev.
